Work the surf in front of the Morris Island Lighthouse

Then practice braces,rolling, surfing, rough water rescues and towing

Ending with a short journey
via open ocean down Morris Island,
return through the rough breakers putting
all skills to use.

Surf Zone Fundamentals

introduce the anatomy of a surf beach

recognize spilling, plunging and dumping waves, long shore and rip currents

recognize effects on surf of swell height, direction and period, beach shape, tide height and wind speed and direction

learn how to read wave sets and windows, and how to launch, land and hold
position, under control in surf without being surfed


practice broaching and side-surfing with correct use of edging and low and high braces

safely negotiate a surf zone during launching and landing
